Advertising on the Internet

Advertisements are arguments with the (often unstated) conclusion that you should buy the product. The whole purpose of advertisements is to appeal to the consumers and make them believe that their life will actually be better and they will be satisfied with their product. Usually, advertisers have different ways of grabbing people's attention. It could be bright colors, catchy music, bright letters, the list goes on. In this particular advertisement, it shows Superman with a milk mustache. So, the advertisers are trying to convince the consumer to buy milk because "You can be big and strong like Superman." This particular ad targets males, because they want to look like Superman and be strong like him, and according to this ad, they can achieve that if they drink milk. Epstein writes that sometimes these claims can be accurate and sometimes they are not.In Section A of Ch. 5, it says that we can accept or reject the claim, depending on whether or not there is good reason to believe the premise, its premise is more plausible than the conclusion, and the argument is valid and strong.
